    Kris: your statement makes complete sense. The synthetic cork cannot dry out, therefore it makes no difference in what position it’s stored. On the other hand, many wines sealed with synthetic corks may not necessarily be worth “laying down” for an extended periods for two primary reasons: a) synthetic corks prohibit the exchange of oxygen in or out of the bottle (at least, more so than natural cork) and, thereby, limit a wine’s maturation via the break-down of tannins and sugars over time; ergo, b) winemakers don’t often choose synthetic corks for vintages that they envision will age well.
