Jacksonville Backyard BBQ Championships

The Jacksonville Backyard BBQ Championships were first held in 2009 as a fundraiser for the Glyn Cook Memorial Scholarship for Daniel kids. In the inaugural year, 19 amateur teams competed and over 700 attended the event at Firefighter Hall at I-10 and Stockton (Jacksonville). The following year, the contest expanded to include the Firefighter Tower site across the street where 22 teams competed.

This year, in addition to a new location (the Pepsi Plaza at EverBank Field), the contest is expanding to include not only amateur teams, but also professional BBQ teams for the first time.

Teams compete in three disciplines: Chicken, Ribs and Pork
Trophies are awarded for first, second and third place as well as Grand Champion and Reserve Champion (both based on overall scores).
Judges for the contest include certified judges, local chefs and local celebrities from the world of sports, politics, media and more.
Attendees to the event can sample BBQ from the teams and enjoy music, games, and entertainment while helping a worthy cause.
