A Sardinian Feast with Friends
June 22, 2011A couple of years go, the Mrs. and I jetted off to the small Italian island of Sardinia for the marriage of two of our best friends; Mr. Adam Bartoy and Miss Jacqueline Mariani.
Jacq’s family is native to Sardinia, and so both her and Adam end up going back there about every couple of years for family obligations. Their most recent obligation/vacation (a couple of weeks ago) was for a baptism, and when they arrived back they offered to gather a bunch of us together for a traditional Sardinian feast.
What follows is just a brief photo diary of that night.
Jacqueline in the kitchen, where she belongs!!! :) I’m just kidding. I actually think Adam does most of the cooking in the relationship…
Creative Uses for Wine Corks

“Kris, my co-worker/best friend/BBQ Champion, Matt, has like 4,000 corks and needs some unique ideas about how to use them. Figured you might have some wisdom in this area. Let me know if you do! Thanks!”
Always wanting to be the helpful friend, I figured this is a perfect opportunity to do some research into the crazy things that people do to recycle wine bottle corks!
Let’s get the furniture out of the way first!

Restaurant Orsay – 4th of July Backyard BBQ

Restaurant Orsay will be serving up their take on classic southern BBQ this July 4th, with vinegar braised pork shoulder, fresh cornbread with locally raised corn, house made sweet pickles, truffled egg salad sliders, pop corn with assorted embellishments, adult snow cones and much more!

Orsay do expect to sell-out, so make your plans now – you know you don’t want to be the one cleaning up after the fun – let them do that. The fun will kick off at 1pm on Monday, July 4th and serve until 6pm. This year they will have more fun games for the kiddos (under 10 is free admission – ID still required ;)
And… Riding hell-bent for leather from the moss-draped swamps of Northeast Florida, Jacksonville’s own mavericks of rock and roll – The 1911’s will be coming back with their tasty jams.

Join Ruth’s Chris on June 29th at 7 pm as they partner with Republic National Distributing Company to present a terrific four course wine dinner. Showcased are some of their featured wines paired with some of their signature dishes.
The Fess Parker Red, “Cellar Reserve” is a Syrah and Grenache blend which is labeled and blended exclusively for Ruth’s Chris Steak House. They’ve paired the Fess Parker Red with the New Orleans Short Ribs. The St. Suprey Meritage is also one of the featured wines that they’ve paired with their signature filet and blackened shrimp entrée.
