Coffin Doubles as a Wine Rack…or is that Vice-Versa?

Posted on by Kris

The Wine Bottle Coffin. The perfect gift for someone you hate.Holy sh*t balls…they have to be kidding!
Unfortunately it seems as though they are not!

The "Vintner’s Vessel" (as it has been so aptly named) will most certainly appeal to anyone with an affinity for fine wines (and disturbing furniture). This exquisite piece of pine craftsmanship will make itself extremely useful during your lifetime (and after). The moment you kick the bucket, the interior framework can be slid out to be re-assembled as a free-standing wine rack. This will allow your wine collection to be displayed at your wake, permitting your mourners to do as the coffin’s medallion instructs: "Celebrate my life".
Personally I would have mine read “Celebrate my life…but don’t touch the stuff on the top shelf…that’s staying with Coffin Doubles as a Wine Rack…or is that Vice-Versa?me!”

The "Vintner’s Vessel" will house 19 bottles of wine in the lower portion. The upper third of the coffin provides space for your wine glasses. Well haven’t they just thought of everything!!!

For more information on the worlds most depressing piece of wine cabinetry, visit the www.theoldpinebox.com, and at the same time reminisce about what websites used to look like back in the 90’s…
Oh….the price….I know you want to know the price! This fine wine coffin is yours for only $1,400! I know what I’m asking Santa for, for Christmas!

The Evolution of a Palate (at Least Mine)…

Posted on by Kris

Do you think your palate has changed much in the last few years? Do you think your palate has changed much in the last few years?
I’m not talking about over the last 10 years, but just the last 2-3? Needless-to-say, you’re going to notice a change over the last 10+, but I’m guessing that’s more from a budgetary standpoint than it is from one of taste. Back in college for example; you probably couldn’t afford to drink the wines you are today (not that you probably didn’t want to), but the cash-flow situation stood in your way.
You know what I’m saying?

I reason I’m rambling on like this is that I was just thinking last week how much I really used to mainly go for HUGE wines; such as MASSIVE Aussie Shiraz’s, and GINORMOUS Napa Cabs. “Tear your head-off, and spit down your neck” kind-of-wines! They were all I consumed.
Not that I don’t have a fair appreciation for those wines now, more that I just don’t appreciate them as much.

Lamb Meatballs with Cumin, Mint, and Tomato Sauce Paired with Ramspeck Napa Pinot Noir 2009

Posted on by Kris

Ramspeck Pinot Noir

Cabernet vines dominate the Napa Valley landscape, but everyone (I assume) knows that!
What often gets overlooked is that (given half the chance) Napa can still do a decent job with Pinot Noir; even though Sonoma, Willamette (Oregon), and Carneros hog most of the limelight. Now don’t get me wrong, the Pinot’s coming out of “the Valley” are stylistically very different than those hailing from the cooler aforementioned regions; producing wines which are much more “in your face”. However, I don’t think you should be so quick to overlook them!

Ramspeck was started by Gerry and Linda Rowland in 1991. Actually, it’s more like they restarted it. You see, winemaker Gerry traced his family lineage back to 1537 in Europe (where all the history comes from), and discovered that his family had been turning grapes into wine loooooong before he was around! The Rowland family crest now adorns the label of all Ramspeck wines.
