I’ve been on a bit of a Jorge Ordonez (the importer of this wine) kick lately! As the “bringer-inner” (I just made up that term) of some of the best Spanish wines in the U.S, he’s been fighting to help the wines of Spain wines out of obscurity since 1987. When looking at a bottle of Spanish wine, look for the Jorge Ordoñez importer information on the back label, it’s as close to a 100% guarantee of quality as you can get! I know for a fact that I haven’t tasted a single-one of his wines that I didn’t think was anything less than outstanding for the price
Ol’ Jorge also seems to be a little-bit of a marketing wiz! He’s known for giving very cool and modern looking labels to wines which may have otherwise been completely overlooked by the consumer. The Can Blau is no exception.

This recipe is my attempt at killing four birds with one stone; and by “birds” I mean my crockpot, chicken, my bottle of Palmaz 2007 Napa Valley Riesling, and my wife.
What do the three have in common, and why do you want to kill your wife with a stone?
Well…
My slow cooker has been looking kind of sad lately. All lonely, stuffed away in a dark-corner of my pantry, covered in dust, giving my the stink-eye every time I open the pantry door . It was time for a crock pot revival!
I find chicken to be the most boring of all meats (chicken wings not included), rarely cooking it in my home, and very rarely ordering it in restaurants. I decided to give chicken another chance.
This particular bottle of Palmaz 2007 Napa Valley Riesling has been sat on my wine rack since our trip to Napa in ‘08. I realized a long time ago that I’ve got far too much white wine in my cellar (I use the term cellar loosely, closet is more accurate), and I’ve slowly been working my way through it.
I’m continuing the crusade to convert my wife from being a Riesling-hater, to a Riesling-lover!
I therefore needed a recipe that combined all four!

Aussie cult winemaker Chris Ringland has escaped from Australia and he has created a Spanish version of Bitch Grenache. The Bitch has been on a hiatus of sorts for the past few vintages. She (I presume it’s a she) was one of the Australian labels underneath the Grateful Palate umbrella that went into bankruptcy last year.
Well, fans of the Bitch will be pleased to know that she’s back…and she’s switched her Australian accent for a Spanish one!
Chris Ringland’s Notes on the 2009 Bitch Grenache:
"I blended Bitch Grenache Aragon 2009 from a selection of un-oaked Grenache wines from various sub-regions of Aragon and Navarra, around the Southern regions of the Ebro river valley. The climate is typical of inland Northern Spain; continental with very cold winters and hot, dry summers. Grape yields are typically low and this, combined with a historical selection of small-berried, deeply colored clones, produces wines of a more "masculine" expression of the variety. Dark cherry and raspberry aromas are underpinned with spicy, peppery notes with hints of anise. Aragon Grenache displays extraordinary natural acid balance, even at elevated ripeness levels. I have selected wines, which convey vibrant, juicy fruit together with a very soft, sweet-fruited palate structure.”
Availability of this wine is still fairly recent, so it may be a little time before you see it for sale on retailer’s shelves.
